China's THI looks global with SPMT

The TJ-S2.43 from THI carries a 2,000 tonne test weight

Wuhan Tianjie Heavy Industries (THI), based in China, has launched a new self-propelled modular transporter (SPMT) aimed at the global market.

The TJ-S2.43 carried a 2,000 tonne test weight in a 52-axle line configuration at a customer event at its Jiangxia production facilities in August. Its aim was to simulate its capabilities in typical applications like the movement of platform modules, ship hulls and bridge segments.

Maximum capacity per axle-line of the SPMT is 40 tonnes, while total load capacity can reach above 16,000 tonnes using a combination of modules. Theoretically this can be increased to 60,000 tonnes, said the company.

The TJ-S2.43 has +/-350mm suspension cylinder lifting stroke above and below its default 1,500 mm position. The pendulum suspension achieves multi-directional suspension compensation, added the manufacturer. Each wheel set has +130°/-100°, achieving multi-directional steering across the vehicle, which can be controlled by a single operator.

"The THI TJ-S2.43 SPMT is mainly designed to handle large-scale, single unit oversize and overweight cargo over short distances in port load-in/load-out transportation, etcetera," Said Liu Xuan, CEO at THI. "Thus meeting the heavy transport demands in construction projects like ships, offshore engineering, nuclear power, high-speed rail, roads, bridges and wind power."

THI's has incorporated its patented intelligent micro movement transportation system, visual programming control system, intelligent fault alarm positioning system into the model.
